The night before a fishing competition a few years ago, my son Jack and I were sitting on our boat, assembling fishing rods and talking about the next day. I have long loved bass fishing tournaments, but this would be my first time.
I am also a bait and tackle enthusiast and our boat is stocked with many of the latest and greatest products in the fishing industry. However, in my case, experience often breeds sentimentality. Jack lacks such experience, so his strongest ties are with more “modern” concepts – vibrating jigs, buzzbaits with plastic trailers instead of rubber skirts, and pliable plastic lures in varieties too numerous to count.
