A terrible rookie season for Green Bay Packers rookie MarShawn Lloyd is over. According to Tom Silverstein of the Milwaukee Journal SentinelLloyd is still recovering from a worsening hamstring injury he suffered before his appendectomy in November and will be sidelined for the 2024 season.
Lloyd, who was on the non-football illness list, is now on the injured reserve list.
According to Silverstein, Lloyd is recovering from an appendectomy but is not yet well due to a hamstring injury.
Lloyd, who was selected in the third round by USC, played in only one game as a rookie due to several injuries and emergency surgery to treat appendicitis.
Lloyd suffered a hip injury prior to the start of training camp, suffered his first hamstring injury in his preseason debut against the Cleveland Browns, suffered an ankle injury requiring a trip to injured reserve in his regular season debut against the Indianapolis Colts, and then suffered a combination hamstring and appendix injury just before back from injured reserve in November.
Lloyd scored six times for 15 yards and caught one pass in his only appearance as a rookie.
According to Silverstein, the Packers plan to send Lloyd to the same UW-Madison specialists who helped Christian Watson and Eric Stokes protect their hamstrings from recurring injuries last season. Neither Watson nor Stokes have had hamstring problems this season.
Even without Lloyd, the Packers were still a dominant rushing team in 2024. Starter Josh Jacobs rushed for over 1,300 yards and finished sixth in the NFL in rushing, Emanuel Wilson rushed for over 500 yards and ranked second among running backs in success rate, and former Dolphin running back Chris Brooks has proven to be a versatile backup option.
If he can recover for the 2025 start, Lloyd will be the main competition to support Jacobs in returning to the Packers offense.
