The Brewers continue to try to strengthen their roster ahead of the upcoming 2025 season by signing the right-handed pitcher to a one-year deal worth $963,000.

Mears is 28 years senior mid-season trade from the Colorado Rockies.

He joined the league in 2020 as an undrafted free agent in 2018 via the Pittsburgh Pirates. He then played for the Rockies for three seasons before being traded to the Brewers last July for Bradley Blalock and Yujanyer Herrera.

He appeared in 11 games for the Bulls as a Brewer, although he had to deal with nagging injuries that put him on the 15-day injured list in August.

He returned and played one game for the team in the playoffs against the New York Mets.

The other four players who agreed to a pre-arbitration deal are pitchers Nestor Cortes, Trevor Megill, Aaron Civale and Joel Payamps.

The Brewers had success with Nick Mears, but not with William Contreras

Nears’ contract was effortless to negotiate because he has the lowest salary projection among other players.

However, one of the head brewers decided that it would take more time to agree to a recent contract.

Contreras, who was an All-Star last season and was a top-10 catcher this season, will take the Brewers to an audition to negotiate a recent contract.

This is the first of three potential years of arbitration eligibility for Contreras.

Player camp demanded a payment of $6.5 millionthat’s $900,000 more than the Brewers were offering.

The league said recent arbitration hearings would be held by next month if the parties fail to reach an agreement.
