Northwestern University’s women’s college basketball team has opted not to play games at UCLA on Jan. 12 and at UCLA on Jan. 15, and Wisconsin Badgers fans are now asking Greg Gard if their men’s basketball team can handle the games away.
The visit was canceled due to ongoing wildfires that have devastated parts of California and left thousands of families homeless.
There are currently two fires ongoing – one in Palisades and Eaton – and continue to threaten households
Head coach Greg Gard said his staff and the Big Ten are already monitoring the situation.
There are badgers set to play the USC Trojans this weekend and the UCLA Bruins on Tuesday.
“We’re in contact with the Big Ten office and they’re keeping us updated on everything that’s going on,” Wisconsin coach Greg Gard said Monday.
“I know Iowa went to the game yesterday. I think they have (games on Tuesday) and Friday, and there are other games going on as well. …We are watching it.”
The concerns are probably about appeals for compassion.
In terms of physical dangeron the USC website we read:
“USC is not located near existing wildfires and current evacuation orders do not impact our USC campuses.”
Greg Gard reacts to his latest personal achievement
The Badgers’ visit to Los Angeles comes after Greg Gard’s 200thvol win as Wisconsin’s coach.
The team is currently on a six-game winning streak and is looking to continue climbing the rankings.
Gard he appreciated his players for the achievement.
“My name is right, but I had great players, current players and those who have been here for the last nine years, great coaches,” he said after the victory over Ohio State.
“I now have a phenomenal staff and support system. You share it. It takes a lot of hard work, many hours that go unnoticed and unnoticed so that we can help the program succeed.”
