Milwaukee Brewers top brewery prospect in 2019 Keston Hiura took Major League Baseball and the city by storm. After being called up to Milwaukee in midseason, Hiura hit .303/.368/.570 with 19 home runs and 49 RBI. Despite his 107 hits and powerful second base defense, his offensive play was thrilling. At the time, fans imagined that he and Christian Yelich would be the top three in the Brewers’ bullpen for many years to come.
Unfortunately, this was not to be the case.
Former Milwaukee Brewers reliever Keston Hiura just can’t hit the Major League pitch
Unfortunately for Hiura and the Brewers, he was never able to hit that high in consecutive seasons in Milwaukee. Worse still, he continued to strike too often.
In 2020, he hit .212/.297/.410 with 13 home runs, 32 RBI and a National League-leading 85 strikeouts (in 59 games).
The following year, the Brewers tried to move Hiura to first base and then outfield due to his terrible defense at second base. Due to being selected to the minors, he appeared in just 61 games that season, hitting .168/.256/.301 with four home runs, 19 RBI and 77 strikeouts.
He spent the entire year in Triple-A in 2023 and hit .308/.395/.565 with no home runs, 23 RBI and 90 strikeouts in 85 games.
After reaching free agency after the 2023 season, he signed with the Detroit Tigers but never made a Major League roster. Instead, he hit just .232/.312/.401 with six home runs and 24 RBI. Hiura scored 56 times in 49 games.
After being released mid-season, he signed with the Los Angeles Angels and was sent to their Triple-A team. There he hit .354/.424/.796 with 20 home runs, 42 RBI and 51 strikeouts in 37 games.
He was called up to the Angels for 10 games, but struck out 10 times, hitting .148/.148/.148.
The former Milwaukee Brewer landed Keston Hiura and signed with the Colorado Rockies
A few days ago, Hiura signed a contract with the Colorado Rockies. This is a minor league contract that includes an invitation to spring training:
The Rockies have agreed to a Minor League contract with INF Keston Hiura, according to a source. Hiura will be at Major League camp with Colorado.

At least he’ll play baseball again. Unfortunately, Hiura has developed a reputation as a hitter who can dominate pitching in the minor leagues but has struggled mightily in the majors.
Perhaps this will change with the next change of scenery.
