A review of Wisconsin’s sandhill crane crop damage recovery policies revealed that payments to farmers cannot be made unless it is sandhill crane season.
This was the information received by members of the Legislative Council’s Sandhill Crane Study Committee during their second meeting on September 4 in Madison. This meeting focused on crop damage caused by sandhill cranes. Each year, the Hirchert USDA Wildlife Services office in Wisconsin receives approximately 180 complaints about damage to sandhill crane crops.
