Future Packers unpackers: No. 89, West Virginia OL Wyatt Milum

The Green Bay Packers drafted an offensive lineman in the first round for the first time since 2011 last year when they selected Jordan Morgan 25th overall.

Morgan shot at right and left guard in his rookie season and could be primed for a more prominent role if center Josh Myers isn’t re-signed and Elgton Jenkins moves to center, opening the door for Morgan to start at left guard.

With Zach Tom and Rasheed Walker entering the final year of their rookie contracts, the Packers may consider adding a versatile offensive lineman early in the 2025 NFL Draft to avoid a potential problem if they are unable to re-sign a pair of starting offensive tackles.

Wyatt Milum could be a potential target for Brian Gutekunst as he looks to strengthen the offensive line this offseason. The offensive lineman from West Virginia ranks 89th in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.

Milum, a four-star recruit out of West Virginia, finished his Mountaineer career with 35 starts at left wing and eight at right wing.

“It’s not often that we have two linemen like Zach Frazier and Wyatt Milum from the state, but that’s what the Mountaineers were able to experience. Milum was a highly recruited forward who chose to stay home despite offers from virtually every major college football program and lived up to the billing and beyond,” said Keenan Cummings, executive editor of WVSports.com. “After earning All-American honors his freshman year, after giving up just three sacks his freshman year, he didn’t give up any again for the rest of his career. Milum was as reliable as anyone could ask for on offense for the Mountaineers and was one of the best in the country, earning All-American honors as a senior. West Virginia simply doesn’t replace players like that, and Milum has exceeded every high expectation that was set for him when he first signed up.”

Milum gave up three sacks during his first season as a starter. Over the next 35 starts on the left wing, Milum gave up no sacks and 30 pressures. He is a technician who can strike at the right moment and maintain balance in series of passes. The former four-star recruit has the lateral quickness to mimic speedy players and protect corners.

“Milum is more than capable as a run blocker, but as mentioned above, his biggest asset is pass protection,” Cummings said. “He has a lot of different kits and is robust in his position, with his presence and his athleticism. The Mountaineers never had to worry about him when it came to pass protection, and he scored incredibly high throughout his career.

Cummings has excellent play strength and robust hands to control defenders in the running game. The 43-game playmaker on the left wing, who is able to kick inside due to his length, has had a good run as a run blocker. He has a powerful lower half and creates movement that blows up open running lanes. It shows no limitations in space.

“Milum is a talented run blocker who has good strength and hands,” Cummings said. “West Virginia felt comfortable running behind him, producing solid numbers throughout his career. He has skills that he can improve here as well.”

Fits the Packers

The Packers have had plenty of success converting college offensive linemen into pro-caliber offensive linemen.

It’s demanding to predict what Green Bay’s starting offensive line will look like at the start of the 2026 season.

It’s unthreatening to assume the Packers will be a priority for re-signing Tom. Will they want to re-sign Walker? Will Sean Rhyan sign a second contract with the Packers? Does Morgan start on offense or defense? Is Myers still around? There are a lot of potential moving parts.

Adding a player like Milum, who could play tackle or guard, could aid paint a clearer picture and aid the Packers prepare for a mass exodus if they are unable to strike a deal that would keep their homegrown talent on the farm.

“Milum had a ton of expectations for West Virginia, and he was able to show that he not only met them, but maybe didn’t even sell him out given how productive he has been throughout his career,” Cummings said. “He will need to improve in some areas at the NFL level, but the former Spring Valley product is an experienced lineman with great measurable numbers and the production to back it up. Milum can play either side of the attack and is the type of player who has always been a leader, setting an example in the gym and during training. Like Zach Frazier, Milum just goes about his business and does his job.

Milum played right tackle in high school and then played in eight games there during his 2021 freshman campaign. He went on to play 35 games at left tackle for the Mountaineers and never gave up a sack.

Milum offers the versatility of an attacker, is a pass protection technician and a grader as a run blocker. Due to the current makeup of Green Bay’s offensive line, he may not see many snaps as a rookie, but he could move into a starting lineup role during his second year in the league.

The NFL Draft is always looking to the future, and the Packers are always planning ahead to try to build a lasting winner. Milum may not be a first-round pick, but he could be a second-round target for Gutekunst.
