Sections No finalists for Packers in 2024 AP NFL 8 Awards

The Green Bay Packers did not have a single finalist for any of the eight major NFL awards as voted by the Associated Press.

AP released the finalists for NFL MVP, NFL Coach of the Year, NFL Assistant Coach of the Year, NFL Comeback Player of the Year, NFL Defensive Player of the Year, NFL Offensive Player of the Year, NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year on Thursday.

The Packers didn’t have a legitimate candidate for NFL MVP, NFL Comeback Player of the Year or NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Matt LaFleur’s bid to become a finalist for Coach of the Year likely came to nothing when the Packers lost consecutive season-ending games and finished seventh. His team ultimately lost all six games against the Eagles, Lions and Vikings in 2024. The five finalists were Lions coach Dan Campbell, Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell, Broncos coach Sean Payton, Commanders coach Dan Quinn and Chiefs coach Andy Reid.

Jeff Hafley was in contention for Assistant Coach of the Year honors after helping the Packers’ defense break into the NFL’s top 10 in yards, points, yards per game and takeaways. The five finalists were Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores and Lions coordinators Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn.

Xavier McKinney finished second in steals and tied for first in total points during his first season in Green Bay, and the former Giant helped the Packers become one of the NFL’s best receiving defenses. The five finalists for Defensive Player of the Year are Eagles cornerback Zack Baun, Browns tackle Myles Garrett, Bengals tight end Trey Hendrickson, Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II and Steelers tackle TJ Watt.

Josh Jacobs totaled 16 touchdowns and passed for nearly 1,700 total yards, but the Packers’ Pro Bowl running back didn’t make the top five for Offensive Player of the Year. The five finalists were Eagles quarterback Saquon Barkley, Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, Bengals receiver Ja’Marr Chase, Ravens linebacker Derrick Henry and Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.

Edgerrin Cooper had 13 tackles for a loss and had a mighty case as the second-best rookie defender, but it was a bad year for Defensive Rookie of the Year candidates, and Cooper only played in 14 games. The five finalists were Eagles linebacker Cooper DeJean, Rams linebacker Braden Fiske, Eagles linebacker Quinyon Mitchell, Dolphins forward Chop Robinson and Rams forward Jared Verse.

The winners of the eight awards will be announced on February 6 at the NFL Honors Gala.
