Wrobel, Madsen achieves 100 wins; Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol wins the first title of the conference since 2009

Sturgeon Bay (NBC 26) – For the first time since 2009, Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol is the master of the Packerland conference.

The key reason for the team’s success on the mat is the management of two wrestlers from the upper classes, ZAZ Wrobel and Spencer Madsen.

“He raises the level of everyone in the room,” said coach Stephen Jacobson. “One of our goals this year was the conference championships and everyone just fed their energy.”

The two wrestlers joined in over 200 victories, helping SBS wrapping in a 16-year-old drought in the title of the conference.

“Getting 100 victories is difficult. It is hard to do – said the elder ZAZ Wrobel. “Not everyone reaches, but if you devote time and put your effort, you’ll get there.”

Wrobel competes in the weight class of 175 pounds and was a state qualifier of 2023. This year the senior has 24-3 and took fourth place in the state.

“He was our still leader in the football team and the wrestling team,” said Jacobson. “He is simply a consistent, solid child who does everything all the time.”

Madsen also achieved 100 wins this year, becoming the first junior in the history of the SBS program.

“I definitely knew I was close,” said Madsen. “Everyone told me that I was close, and I saw my mother and my aunt grabbing all my posters and I knew it was there. I’m trying to get 150 now. “

Madsen has 43-1 and took second place in this state.

Jacobson said that Madsen’s work is distinguished by him.

“Spencer is probably a wrestler once in a generation,” said Jacobson. “At the end of your stay, it will probably be at the top of every record we have. At the beginning of the season he mentioned to me, he says: “I do not think that in a state that works hard for me.” And so I think that this is his mentality, that every time he comes to the mat, he will intend everyone. “

Apart from individual awards, both Wrobel and Madsen played a key role in building the culture of the SBS wrestling program.

Wrobel said it started with his seniors class.

“When I was a first -year student, we started with five wrestlers, and only me and a few friends joined the band,” said Wrobel. “And since then it has grown a lot. I had all my friends to fight. I just told all people football, if you want to be better in football, you go out for wrestling. And everyone did it. “

Both wrestlers say that this is just the beginning of SBS wrestling, with more things.

“I mean this program is amazing,” said Madsen. “We have many great trainers. They put a lot of time into it. He really cares about us. These are just great role models. “

“I love this band,” added Wrobel. “I love all my friends and trainers. They are like a family for me. I believe that he will enhance from here. “

Despite all the achievements so far, Wrobel and Madsen still have one more goal: get their names on the board of the winner of the state in the wrestling room in Sturgeon Bay High School.
