One spring, browsing the hunting section in a local agricultural store, I asked a colleague where there are soap and smell sprays. “Man, you know that turkeys cannot smell you, right?” He said. “I do,” I said, “but deer can, and a deer hit can ruin the turkey hunt if they got scared and run through the birds you work.”
For this reason, I try to stay as free of smell as possible when hunting for turkeys, but there is a different, probably more essential reason to play the wind while hunting for these enormous birds.
