Madison Symphony Orchestra (MSO) presents “Legacy”, March concerts with four fascinating vocal powers and the Madison Symphony choir. The program examines the lasting influence of two composers, Richard Strauss and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, through their recent work. After opening one of the great poems of Strauss Don Juan, Soprano Amanda Majeski enters the stage with the orchestra, which Strauss himself called his four last songs. Majeski, Mezzo-Sopran Kirsten Lippart, tenor Martin Luther Clark, Bass Matt Boehler and the chorus of Madison Symphony meet at the request of Mozart, a work he wrote from his death bed and left unfinished. When he passed, his collaborator Franz Xaver Süssmayr finished the composition. Music director John Demain wonders: “Mozart’s incomplete masterpiece offers us incredible beauty at the end of his life.” The song is included as one of the deepest moving works that have ever been created.
“Legacy” performances will take place on Friday, March 14 at 19:30, Saturday, March 15 at 19:30 and Sunday at March 16 at 14:30 at Overture Hall, 201 State Street.
