Girls’ basketball: Xavier and St. Mary Catholic was headed for the state title, Laconia sees a wonderful tip

Green Bay – Two teams of basketball girls from Fox Valley are one win from bringing a golden ball.

(4) Xavier 45, (1) Elk Mound 35

Xavier defeated the sluggish first half to defeat Elk Mound 45-35, providing a place in the match of the Wiaa State Championships in the second year in a row.

Jastrzębie fought early, shooting only 13% from the pitch in the first half and following eight points during the break. Hailey Meyer from Elk Mound contributed to the early dominance of copiers, while Xavier managed only three goals in 22 attempts before the break.

Momentum changed in the second half when the hawks found their rhythm. Xavier ran 16-4, emphasized by the three-point Faith Hafner indicator, which tied the game by 21-all. Hafner continued to attack, going to the rim to give Hawks a six -point advantage, remaining six minutes.

Elk Mound reacted with overdue pressure, reducing the deficit of only one point. However, Ali Tylinski buried a key three -point indicator with the remaining two minutes, expanding Xavier’s advantage back to six. Hawks sealed the victory from there, despite the early misfortunes of shooting, and they will play for a state title on Saturday.

(2) Oostburg 66, (3) Laconia 57

Oostburg hit a ticket to the State Championship after surviving the rally in the second half of Laconia, winning 66-57.

Laconia began strongly when Payton Morgan connected a three-point from the corner, but Oostburg quickly replied that Jordan Lentz knocked down the shot from the opposite side to tie the game at 6-6. Then the Dutch took control of the first -grade Kinsley Ketterhagen, who fueled the attack with a sturdy finish in the middle and three point. Oostburg built a 16-point advantage in the first half.

Laconia returned after the break. Finley Morgan converted the three -point game, and Tierney Madigan gave Spartan his first advantage with the clutch basket. Madigan finished with 17 points.

After 2:30, Macy Brugggink won simple Lay-up, putting Oostburg on 58-57. Laconia tried to transform overdue opportunities, and Oostburg took advantage of the victory. The Dutchman will face Xavier in the Saturday State Championship match.

Division 4:

(2) Saint Mary Catholic 58, Durand-Markansaw 45

Catholic Saint Mary defeated an early deficit to defeat Durand-Arkansaw 58-45, providing a place in the state title match against Cuba City.

Zephyrs entered the board with Emily Vogel’s early basket, but Sawyer Sabelko answered outside the arch, giving Saint Croix Central the lead 6-2. Lauren Ripley helped Catholic Saint Mary in maintaining the pace, transforming the basket and attracting a foul to reduce the deficit to two.

The Panthers extended their advantage with key pieces with Addison Auth, but Zephyrs took control in the second half and kept their victory. Saint Mary Catholic will compete for the state championship on Saturday.
