Dean Bortz: 2347 miles, planted tire and one white tail zloty

JAround every autumn since probably 2010 or 2011, I was able to hunt deer, elks or pronghorn in southern Dakota (deer and pronghorn), Wyoming (deer) and Montana (Deer and Elk). I hunt for the third season of rifles for deer and elk in Colorado in 2005 and 2007 without much success, and then I moved to the other three states, when thoughts turned to the western hunt again.

Last autumn, I attracted a non -resident Montana again, who is not resident, who offers hunting for deer and elks, as well as a petite license for playing and an annual fishing license. Over the past two years, my son -in -law, Chrish from Eau Claire, Wis. Chris is an avid fisherman, but he did not grow up in a hunting family.

This spring, we searched the market on Facebook of the used archery configuration for Chris, finding nothing quite well. One day we stopped in archery and Moldza equipment in Chippewa Falls and found the perfect set used at an excellent price. Chris began to shoot with Mason and me and soon found out that he was a rather wicked shot.

We all submitted an application for non -resident archery tags in southern Dakota Black Hills. Mason attends the Eau Claire North High School (I can’t believe this year for children this year), and the school district always has an October break, which lasts from Thursday to Monday, so we took advantage of the last four years to take the freezer west-first three years in black hills, in which southern Dakota offers 10-white tag for children 15 Under, and then in the last year, where children 16 and a can in a can, and under a discount.

Chris Parish from Eau Claire takes a break from hunting Black Hills South Dakota Black Hills to soak in the scenery. This was his first attempt to hunt archery.

This fall we returned to the Black Hills – we know this area well and it is a shorter drive for those who have less time to hunt.

After returning to Black Hills, we threw Deadwood again to the suggestion of a long -time friend Lee Harstad, who worked as the executive director of the Chamber of Commerce. Now he works with a friend and rent quite nippy cabins in Deadwood through their first Deadwood houses. Seth Bullock Cottage Harstad was a great base camp for this journey.

We did not shoot anything, but we approached. Because it was the first season of Chris’s archery, he wanted to make sure that every shot he made would be good. Chris and my daughter, Melissa, willingly collect or growing their own food, and although he wanted to see how a little venison float in corn, he also wanted a shot that would give him the best chance to quickly kill deer.

A few stems on Mule Deer Spikes and Forks passed, and then he had a great 35-minute episode from Dandy Whitetail, who simply did not get to the range. I made all my archery of southern Dakota hunting from the ground and he achieved a decent success without using a rack or blind. Because Chris is fresh in this game, I should probably have been setting up a blind, but we move a lot on the black hills, so devoting all the time to one place is tough for me.

The last morning of the loan, the White conquered under the brilliant Montana sky.

We found several places holding a total number of deer, not to mention Bucks. One morning we saw a narrow Whitetail, which would be an sincere game with a rifle, but not so much with a bow.

One bonus discovery – archery range south of Deadwood. We shot there several times at a distance of 80 yards. The possibility of shooting at 60 and 70 yards gave Chris the certainty he needed if he was able to make arrows in deer from 40 to 50 yards. It just didn’t happen. This time.

While hunting, we were looking for places where Mason could fish. The adolescent man had a great fun in the ponds and streams of Black Hills and eventually spent more time fishing than hunting. I am almost sure that he will fish black hills, a chance that he will get the rest of his life.

When they returned home, I returned to some of my senior hunting places and finished 15 yards from the medium -sized deer. Buck stood wide, but his chest was covered with a bushy pine bough. Buck turned away, walked away slowly, and then stopped at 40 yards, but offering only a shot from the heart in Texas. I saw youtube hunters made this kind of shot on a deer, but I never made a hunting movie, so I gave it. If I was a resident of the southern Dakota with the tag of the elk, I would have a better chance of a bull’s elk than deer or Whitetail.

From southern Dakota I went to the eastern Montana to work on the label. Once again, I could become too fussy and omitted the nippy dollars early to be able to look for this real schoppus, as Tom Bahti would say. Oh, I saw a schloppus or four, but one deer in which I did not shoot and shot one, but missed. The other two whales were white tails that I could kill, but I would have to do it with the front bumper/passenger tire of my GMC from 2009. Boil, I would give almost everything that I saw any of these bucks in my range instead of the windshield.

A piece of remains of Montana Road made a number on the side wall of Bortz Cooper AT3 on November 1. He bought four fresh Coopers on November 10, 2023 in Miles City, Mont. This tire was not a year.

And how can it be a hunt for Bortz without something that hell in a T -shirt? One day I hunted Miles City when I turned to leave a piece of metal on the road. Only I didn’t miss it. The metal cut the back side wall. Fortunately, I was able to reach Scott in a miles city tire-you have shot Scott-i at hand of the “start” of Cooper AT3.

“These tires are not even a year,” said Scott. He knew this because he sold me four fresh ones in November last year.

However, it turned out to be OK. On the last morning of the middlelight, Whitetail introduced himself under the brilliant Ska Montana, and I did not miss.
