Milwaukee Breweries Manager Pat Murphy shares unfortunate news about LHP Robert Gasser

The Milwaukee Breweries they are 36-23 despite a massive number of injuries in the starting rotation. Brandon Woodruff, of course, was ruled out for the season during spring training. Wade Miley also started the year on the injured list. After trading Corbin Burnes to the Baltimore Orioles, Milwaukee entered the 2024 season with a starting rotation of Freddy Peralta, Colin Rea, Joe Ross, Jakob Junis and DL Hall.

Of the five pitchers, three of them are currently on the injured list. Additionally, Miley was ruled out for the season after returning from Illinois for two games. He needs Tommy John surgery again.

Needless to say, the Brewers’ starting rotation has been a patchwork of players this season. Freshmen Tobias Myers and Robert Gasser each took several turns in the rotation. Myers was recently sent back to Triple-A. Unfortunately, Gasser power he’s headed to the same place many Brewers pitchers have gone this year: the IL.

Of the two starting pitchers, Gasser was the most successful. After five starts, he is 2-0 and has an ERA of 2.59. In his last start, Gasser threw five three-run innings, giving up seven hits and three walks.

Milwaukee won this game in 10 innings thanks to the heroics of Willy Adames. However, it appears Gasser may have missed the game with an elbow injury.

Before the Brewers’ game against the Phillies on Monday night, manager Pat Murphy revealed to the media that Gasser was having his elbow checked in Los Angeles:

Fans may remember that Gasser started the season on the IL with bone spurs in his elbow.

If Gasser has to go on the IL, it’s possible the Brewers will recall Myers again. When he was sent down, they called Janson Junk from Triple-A.

If Milwaukee wanted to give Myers more time in Nashville, they could recall Aaron Ashby, but he is just 1-3 with a 6.80 ERA in nine starts (10 games). Carlos Rodriguez is an intriguing prospect who ranks sixth in the Brewers farm system. He started the season poorly, but has been doing better lately. Overall, he is 4-5 and has an ERA of 5.49.

Chad Patrick has arguably the best record of any Nashville starter, with a 4-1 record and a 3.21 ERA in nine starts.
