The former Milwaukee Brewers outfielder would cost the team $24.5 million if they waived him; 2 Others fight mightily

Milwaukee Brewers News: The Miami Marlins, who have been in the news recently regarding several of their trade targets, have decided to move on from former Milwaukee Breweries outfielder. He was designated for assignment (DFA) while he was halfway through a four-year, $53 million contract. As a result, they will eat $24.5 million in dead money.

In 2021, Avisail Garcia performed exceptionally well in a contract year with the Milwaukee Brewers. The outfielder eliminated sugar from his diet, lost a lot of weight and had arguably the best season of his career, hitting 29 home runs and collecting 86 RBI while slashing .262/.330/.490. After being DFAed by the Marlins on Tuesday, June 4, he finished his Marlins career hitting .217/.260/.322/.582 with 13 home runs and 49 RBI in 153 games.

Another former Milwaukee Brewers player received some tough news this week.

In Seattle, former Milwaukee Brewers third baseman Luis Urias was moved to Triple-A. The 27-year-old was acquired by the Mariners in an off-season trade. Milwaukee dealt him to the Boston Red Sox in July 2023. He hit a dismal .152/.264/.316 in Seattle this year. With nearly $3.4 million remaining on his $5.0 million 2024 salary, it is unlikely he would decline a minor league assignment as it would mean forfeiting his remaining salary.

Speaking of former Milwaukee Brewers players struggling in 2024…

If we look around the league, we’ll notice another former Brewers outfielder who has struggled significantly this season. That player would be Hunter Renfroe. He currently plays for the Kansas City Royals and has a slash line of .179/.256/.327. Kansas City looks like a legitimate playoff contender, so it’s possible that Renfroe could be the next former Brewers player to be eliminated.
