The Wisconsin Badgers are preparing to kick off the 2024-2025 college basketball season, but head coach Greg Gard is constantly looking for players for the program’s future. A season ago, Wisconsin finished with a record of 22-14. They went to the BIG10 Championship Game before losing to the Illinois Fighting Illini.
Wisconsin finished fifth in the NCAA tournament a season ago before facing the James Madison Dukes. Due to this, many players transferred and many fans called for head coach Greg Gard to be fired.
That didn’t happen and Gard is back with the Wisconsin Badgers for the 2024-2025 season and maybe beyond. Wisconsin hopes to return to the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row.
The Wisconsin Badgers will host Tommy Ahneman
Ahneman is a center from West Fargo, North Dakota and is going on an unofficial visit to Madison, Wisconsin on June 26. said Tommy Ahneman Dillon Graff Athlon Sports about participating in the program, saying:
“Wisconsin is a great academic school and basketball program that would allow me to play at the highest level of college basketball.”
Wisconsin Badgers assistant basketball coach Joe Krabbenhoft is trying to recruit him to Wisconsin. Tommy Ahneman also added about him:
“It’s about building relationships. He gave me great insight into Wisconsin and what they expect from their greatest players.”
Tommy Ahneman is 6 feet 4 inches lofty and weighs 235 pounds. According to 247sports, some other schools that currently offer him include the Old Dominion Monarchs, Iowa Hawkeyes and Penn State Nittany Lions. Furman, Weber State and North Dakota are just some of the other college basketball programs that are also interested in him.
The Wisconsin Badgers aren’t the only BIG10 team looking to recruit him. It will be compelling to see what happens when he visits Wisconsin in delayed June.
In his freshman year at Sheyenne High School, he averaged 20.3 points per game, 13.3 rebounds per game and 2.1 blocks per game and was named North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year. He could be a potential replacement for Steven Crowl for the 2025-2026 college basketball season with the Wisconsin Badgers.
Time will tell where Class of 2025 graduate Tommy Ahneman chooses to play college basketball. It would be one thing if he had to play close to home in North Dakota. The Wisconsin Badgers cannot allow a very talented substantial man to join another BIG10 basketball program.
