Milwaukee Bucks: Damian Lillard’s NBA draft ties could make him an ideal addition to the lineup

More than a few names have already been linked as potential candidates for the Milwaukee Bucks in the upcoming 2024 NBA Draft. However, only one of them has the advantage of having connections to Damian Lillard.

That would be last season’s Big Sky Player of the Year Dillon Jones, who also hails from Dame’s Weber State alumni.

Jones and Lillard don’t have many similarities in their games. For starters, the 22-year-old plays as a striker. Although Jones also has a knack for getting balmy on any given night. He was average last season 20.8 points in his fourth season at Weber State with a 48.9% success rate.

However, according to Dalton Sell of Behind the Bucks Pass, Jones’ main value to Milwaukee would be the defensive presence he brings to the table:

“He’s a 6-foot-1, 235-pound winger who could give Milwaukee more depth in a pinch. The Bucks were looking for, among others: big wing defender over the years and maybe they can mold Jones as he has the right size, length and weight to fit a size T.

“…He could be a jack-of-all-trades for the Milwaukee Bucks, providing quality passing, rebounding, defense and maybe even a much-needed scoring punch,” Sell wrote.

Jones will obviously want to leverage his connection to Lillard. The Bucks veteran offered advice to his adolescent counterpart, and Jones used it to reaffirm his intention to go his own way, so to speak:

“The two main things he told me were: Don’t try to make it to the NBA,” Jones said. “Just try to be the best version of yourself. Following him to Weber, it would be uncomplicated to think, “Oh, I’ll try to be like Dame,” or something like that. However, I have never tried to do this. The fact that he told me this kind of confirmed my belief.

The Bucks own the No. 33 pick in the second round of the draft, and it wouldn’t be a huge shock if the name expected to be selected for that spot turns out to be Jones.
