Tom Bahti: From year to year, a lot depends on the number of deer killed in Wisconsin

In my decades as a wildlife biologist with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, few things have kept me up at night. However, in the week before the nine-day opener, I spent a lot of time watching weather forecasts for opening weekend, keeping my fingers crossed.
Regardless of the deer population, few factors impact the deer harvest like opening weekend weather. There are certainly many other factors that influence the final result, but the weather on Saturday and Sunday plays a huge role.
