Milwaukee Breweries Stopper Willy Adames is a popular name in trade rumors around the league. Despite the Brew Crew being in first place and looking like grave postseason contenders, it’s possible that GM Matt Arnold is weighing the pros and cons of changing the team’s leader, who happens to be set to become a free agent. Recently, one team lost its starting shortstop and could have approached the Brewers about making a deal for Adames.
Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 MVP candidate Mookie Betts suffered a broken arm.
2024 was Mookie Betts’ first year as an intermediate stopper. He handled the pressure well while also producing the MVP offensively. Unfortunately, he was hit in the hand by a ball, suffered a fracture and will be sidelined for some time. Miguel Rojas will take over the position temporarily, but per Zach Pressnell from Fansided it now makes sense for the Dodgers to aggressively pursue Willy Adames as an emergency replacement.
Milwaukee Brewers – Los Angeles Dodgers trade proposal for Willy Adames.
Zach Pressnell also proposed a hypothetical trade between the Brewers and Dodgers. His proposal would see both Willy Adames and prospect Mike Boeve go to Los Angeles in exchange for controlled starting pitcher Landon Knack. He admitted that trades between rival teams are infrequent, but this deal would lend a hand both organizations meet needs.
For the Dodgers, this deal is straightforward. They need a compact stop until Betts returns. Adames can then be moved around as a versatile reliever, playing wherever the Dodgers need him. His bat would get stuck in their lineup, making their team even more perilous. Knack doesn’t have a spot in Los Angeles right now, so the Dodgers could trade him and not face the consequences just yet.
In this situation, the Milwaukee Brewers have the advantage over the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While the Brewers are in dire need of starting pitchers, they are expected to sign several players from injury in the near future. The Dodgers, on the other hand, have no set timetable for Mookie Betts’ return. This gives the Brewers all the leverage, and it’s challenging to imagine them sending both Adames and top hitter Boeve in exchange for a 26-year-old pitcher who is locked into the Dodgers’ starting rotation.
If Milwaukee is going to trade Adames or for a starting pitcher, they could certainly make a deal elsewhere without giving up a top prospect. While Betts’ injury makes the Dodgers need a more urgent shortstop, I wouldn’t expect the Brewers to agree to the deal proposed above.
