Former Milwaukee Brewers Pitcher is calling on the team to sign Trevor Bauer

The Milwaukee Breweries they have been terribly unlucky with the health of their starting pitchers. Before the season began, right-hander and perennial Cy Young All-Star candidate Brandon Woodruff was ruled out of this year’s competition. Since then, Wade Miley and Robert Gasser have also been ruled out of the season, with the latter called up to replace other injured starting pitchers.

In addition to the three starters who are sidelined through the end of the 2024 season, the Brewers also lost Joe Ross, Jakob Junis and DL Hall to injuries. Junis was reinstated on Friday, but the other two are currently on the injured list.

Despite all these injuries, the Brewers are 44-31 and have a comfortable six-and-a-half-game lead over the St. Louis Cardinals in the fight for first place in the Central Division of the National League. What’s more, Milwaukee is only one of four National League teams with a winning record this year.

The Milwaukee Brewers need starting pitching depth

With so many starters injured, the Brewers had to be inventive and unconventional in their approach to each game. Left-handed reliever Jared Koenig has started five times this season as the team’s opener. He usually starts the round before the “scheduled” starter arrives [hopefully] five or six innings of relief.

Milwaukee also had to rely on teenage starters from the minors. Gasser had a phenomenal rookie season until it was discovered he needed Tommy John surgery. Tobias Myers had a coarse start after his first call-up and was sent back to Nashville. However, his second start in Milwaukee produced excellent results, and he was 3-0 in his last three starts.

Carlos Rodriguez recently made his Big League debut, but struggled with command in his few opportunities early on.

There is no doubt that the Brewers will be shopping for starting pitching at the MLB trade deadline. However, one former Brewers pitcher believes they should turn to the controversial free agent first.

Former Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Seth McClung believes the team should sign Trevor Bauer

Earlier Friday afternoon, former Brewers reliever Seth McClung posted on X (formerly Twitter) in which he believes Milwaukee is one of several teams that should sign Trevor Bauer:

As you can see, McClung also mentioned the San Diego Padres, Chicago Cubs, Tampa Bay Rays, Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins.

As McClung notes, Bauer is not the best guy in the world. That being said, the former Brewers pitcher believes the disgraced Cy Young Award winner “has served his time for being…” Of course, that wasn’t why Bauer was suspended; was suspended for violating MLB’s domestic violence and sexual assault policy.

Although he was never charged with a crime, the actions he committed violated league policy. Former Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias is serving a similar suspension for domestic violence.

And while Bauer can sign with any team now that his suspension is over, that doesn’t mean teams have to sign him. The truth is, if there were players in the locker room who wanted or wouldn’t mind playing with him, he would have a job in Major League Baseball.
