The recipe for this delicious drink comes from Hilaria Ponce, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities studying agricultural education, communications and marketing. She says this tasty agua fresca recipe is a favorite from her childhood.

Low in sugar and full of delicious, fresh ingredients, agua fresca consists of fresh fruit, lime juice, water and sweetener. Originating in Mexico, these drinks are a low-calorie, fruity alternative to juices, making them perfect for both adults and children.

You can change this recipe by substituting your favorite fruit or even substituting vegetables like cucumbers! You can even make this drink carbonated by adding carbonated water.

  • 4 cups watermelon diced
  • 1 Lime juice
  • 2 spoon sugar
  • 3 cups water split utilize

Optional decorations

  • abrasive sugar

  • lime slices
  • pieces of watermelon
  • Mix all ingredients in a blender until glossy.

  • Strain the mixture into a jug and discard the solids.

  • Add the remaining water to the jug and mix thoroughly.
