It’s no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks were very disappointing last season after being eliminated by the Indiana Pacers early in the first round. However, next season will be a different story if the front office can address the team’s biggest needs as quickly as possible.
The 2023-24 season was a tumultuous one for Milwaukee, marked by coaching changes and personnel moves. After a disappointing one exiting the playoffs in the first round last year, the Bucks parted ways with head coach Mike Budenholzer and hired Adrian Griffin as his replacement.
However, Griffin’s tenure was short-lived as he was fired midway through the season despite the team’s success. The Bucks then brought in veteran coach Doc Rivers to steady the ship.
One of the Bucks’ major moves was acquiring seven-time All-Star Damian Lillard in a three-team trade. Pairing the point guard with superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo gave Milwaukee an impressive double-double punch.
Despite earning an eighth straight playoff berth, the Bucks faced more adversity when both Antetokounmpo and Lillard missed time due to injuries. This proved too much to overcome as the short-handed Bucks were upset in the first round by the Indiana Pacers, meaning they were eliminated before the season for the second straight year.
Overall, the 2023-2024 season was an up-and-down season for the Bucks, featuring significant changes but ultimately ending in disappointment as they failed to make a deep playoff run.
Milwaukee Bucks’ biggest demand for the 2024-25 NBA season revealed
At this point, the Bucks front office must move quickly to identify the team’s biggest needs and address them this offseason. In an article published in Forbes, Brian Sampson described in detail the most critical requirements for the upcoming season.
“If it wasn’t clear before the playoffs, it was clear after: The Bucks simply don’t have the athleticism to keep up with the best in the NBA. The Indiana Pacers proved this the hard way by circling Milwaukee in both the regular season and postseason.
Aside from Greek god Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Bucks are in dire need of solid athletic reinforcements at almost every position. They could have done wonders by designing a high-flying giant like DaRon Holmes II or Kel’el Ware, or grabbing a wing with jet engines for legs like Terrance Shannon Jr.
Regardless of which direction they choose, the Bucks should aim to acquire a player who can easily move around the court and play above the rim. It’s time for Milwaukee to add some much-needed speed and explosiveness to their lineup.” Samson wrote.
Milwaukee finished last season with a record 49 wins and 33 losseswhich gave them third place in the Eastern Conference. They also showed sixth place in attack and defense, which ranks 19th out of 30 teams.
If Milwaukee can add more athleticism to the lineup, you can expect the team to become more unpredictable on the court than just relying on Antetokounmpo and Lillard. Otherwise, the Bucks will simply suffer a similar fate to last season.
