Only two members of the Green Bay Packers landed on board Pete Prisco’s list of the 100 best players of 2024 for CBS Sports: cornerback Jaire Alexander and quarterback Jordan Love.
Alexander, a two-time All-Pro, finished 64th. Compared to last year, it dropped by 43 positions, mainly due to injuries. A well 2024 season could allow him to return to elite status.
“Injuries are the only thing holding him back,” Prisco wrote. “He has to stay on the field because once he does, he can stop every receiver in the league. We certainly have the talent that will keep us playing at the highest level year after year.”
Love proved many doubters wrong in his first season as a starter, and now he will enter 2024 as a legitimate Pro Bowl candidate. He finished 87th overall and 14th among quarterbacks on Prisco’s list. Just like the Packers believe, Prisco sees huge things in the future for the 25-year-old quarterback.
“In his first full season as a starter, he showed he has the potential to be the Packers’ long-term quarterback,” Prisco wrote. “He threw 32 touchdown passes and 11 picks, leading the Packers to the playoffs. The best is yet to come.”
Two other Packers received honorable mentions: safety Xavier McKinney and edge rusher Rashan Gary. McKinney signed a huge contract when he joined the Packers in the offseason, potentially stabilizing Jeff Hafley’s secondary. Gary is enjoying a well offseason and is out for another year with an ACL injury, which could set the stage for a huge 2024 season.
A mighty case could be made for defensive tackle Kenny Clark and running back Josh Jacobs as standouts, but neither made the list.
Honorable mention was former Packers running back Aaron Jones.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was Prisco’s No. 1 player.
