Milwaukee Bucks: New team enters trade talks for Brook Lopez

The Milwaukee Bucks have announced they are making some pretty significant roster moves. When they were eliminated from the NBA Playoffs after losing to the Indiana Pacers in the first round, rumors immediately began to swirl that they might trade All-Star point guard Damian Lillard. Of course, the usual rumors about Giannis Antetokounmpo also began to circulate.

However, Bucks, Giannis and Lillard have made it clear that both superstars are not going anywhere. As such, head coach Doc Rivers has also made it clear that he wants to make some changes. As a result, rumors about other players on the Bucks’ roster began to make headlines.

Milwaukee Bucks Could Become Brook Lopez’s Trading Hub on NBA Transfer Market

Due to the salary cap (they are on the back burner), the Bucks don’t have many options when it comes to being involved in the deal. This means that one or more key support players may be transferred.

According to Jake Fisher from Yahoo SportsBrook Lopez’s name often comes up among NBA personnel:

“League staff told Yahoo Sports the Bucks are open to a roster change and are evaluating the trade value of Brook Lopez. Sources say Houston warned Lopez that re-signing with Milwaukee could very well lead to him being traded when the Rockets pursued Lopez in free agency a year ago.

In six seasons with the Bucks, Lopez averaged 13.0 points, 5.2 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. He made two All-NBA Defensive Teams and finished second in NBA Defensive Player of the Year voting for the 2022-23 season.

As Fischer notes, Lopez signed a two-year contract with the Bucks last summer, turning down larger offers from other teams. Now it looks like he may not be able to keep that contract in Milwaukee.

The San Antonio Spurs have shown interest in Milwaukee Bucks center Brook Lopez

According to Matt Moore from Action Network“Brook Lopez’s name is the most frequently mentioned in discussions, with San Antonio among the interested teams.”

The Spurs can, of course, boast Victor Wembanyama, who averaged 3.6 blocks per season in his rookie season, which was the best in the NBA.

Combining Wemby and Lopez in defense would give Spurs a historic shot-blocking presence. Moore doesn’t suggest who the Bucks could get in a trade, but it would have to be an athletic winger who would fit into Rivers’ system.
