Most recently, the Milwaukee Brewers defeated the defending champion Texas Rangers 6-3, 3-1 and 6-5. Now the Brewers begin a three-game series against the Chicago Cubs. Milwaukee has a chance to put another foot in the grave if the Cubs win the series this weekend. Both teams scored in the fourth inning of this matchup, but the Brewers scored four runs in that half inning to ultimately tie the game. 4-2 win.
Milwaukee is 49-33. They lead the NL Central by six and a half games. Chicago lost 38-45. The Cubs are in last place in the NL Central, 11 and a half games behind the Brewers. Chicago’s season has been looking worse in the last few weeks, and their season could change dramatically if they can’t get a few wins.
Milwaukee Brewers comfortable 4-2 win over Cubs
In the bottom of the fourth inning, designated hitter Seiya Suzuki hit a solo home run to left field, giving the Cubs their first run of the game. Three batters later, shortstop Dansby Swanson hit an RBI single to left field to extend Chicago’s lead. A half-inning later, with two outs and the bases loaded, Brewers right fielder Jackson Chourio hit a huge shot to left field. Chourio became the youngest player to hit a grand slam since Jose Reyes on June 15, 2003.
Brewers Escape the Jam and Get the Victory
In the top of the seventh inning, Brewers reliever Jared Koenig escaped trouble with two outs and the bases loaded when pinch hitter Patrick Wisdom flew out to center field. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Cubs reliever Jorge Lopez escaped trouble with two outs and the bases loaded when Brewers second baseman Brice Turang flew out to second base. Neither team was able to score more points in this match, giving Milwaukee a 4-2 victory.
Brewers top players win 4-2
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea picked up his seventh win of the season. He pitched five and a third innings, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks while striking out eight batters. Jackson Chourio had the Brewers’ only multi-hit game, going two-for-three with four RBIs in the victory.
Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon threw six innings, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk on five strikeouts. Both teams recorded only five hits apiece, but Chicago’s offense was unable to overcome the Brewers’ lead. Seiya Suzuki went 1-for-4 with an RBI, while Dansby Swanson went 1-for-3 with an RBI in the loss.
