Milwaukee Brewers place another pitcher on IL ahead of Game 2 of series against Chicago Cubs

This Milwaukee Breweries They have won five games in a row and are six and a half games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals for first place in the National League Central Division. They are also nine and a half games ahead of the Pittsburgh Pirates, 11 games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds and 11.5 games ahead of Craig Counsell’s last-place Chicago Cubs.

That 4-2 win over the Cubs, highlighted by Jackson Chourio’s grand slam, gave Milwaukee its final victory. But now it appears they may be down to another pitcher on the injured list. While the Brewers pitchers have done a great job of keeping Milwaukee in games and in the first place, keeping them vigorous is becoming increasingly challenging.

Brewers fans are well aware that injuries have plagued both starters and relievers even before spring training begins. All-Star starter Brandon Woodruff has been ruled out for the 2024 season after shoulder surgery stemming from a shoulder injury he suffered last year. All-Star closer Devin Williams has yet to appear in a game this season due to a stress fracture in his back.

The Brewers have had to place pitchers on the IL in their starting rotation since the start of the season. Jakob Junis just returned from the injured list after playing just one game in the first week of the season. Aaron Ashby also missed the start of the year with a hand issue. Joe Ross is currently coming off an injury in his first season in the majors since 2021. DL Hall is currently coming off a knee injury

Wade Miley and Robert Gasser have been sidelined for the season due to Tommy John surgery.

In the bullpen, JB Bukauskas and Abner Uribe (minors) are on the injured list. Closer Trevor Megill also spent some time on this list.

Milwaukee Brewers place Jared Koenig on the 15-day injured list

The hits continue to roll in for the Brewers, too. Earlier today, the team announced on social media that left-handed reliever Jared Koenig will serve the 15-day IL with tendonitis:

Koenig, who started five games as the Brewers’ opener, is 7-1 on the season with a 1.66 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. He has appeared in 29 games and has 36 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.

Rob Zastryzny is a former Cubs shortstop who played for Chicago from 2016 to 2018. After a three-year absence from the Majors, Zastryzny started for the New York Mets and Los Angeles Angels in 2022. He appeared in 21 games for the Pittsburgh Pirates last season and went 1-0 with a 4.79 ERA.

This year in the Triple-A Nashville League, Zastryzny is 4-0 with a 3.18 ERA in 28 games.
