Milwaukee Bucks fans finally get to see Giannis Antetokounmpo play basketball. It’s been months since they’ve seen the face of the franchise in a uniform and on the court, but now he’s playing for Greece in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games.
Greece last competed in the Beijing Olympics in 2008, when Vassilis Spanoulis and Antonis Fotsis lost to Argentina in the quarterfinals, finishing fifth. It is possible they would have finished on the podium in Beijing had Antetokounmpo been there.
Of course, Antetokounmpo was only 13 at the time. Nevertheless, his rise to NBA champion and two-time league MVP has already cemented his place as the greatest Greek athlete of all time. At EuroBasket 2022, he led the country in points after Greece was eliminated in the quarterfinals.
However, in the match against the Dominican Republic, Giannis suffered an injury that stunned the fans.

According to the Bucks reporter Eric Nehm:
Scary moment. Giannis Antetokounmpo had a teammate take his weight and land on his left leg. After a few extra seconds on his back, Antetokounmpo got up and continued playing.
A spin to a finger spin, then a nice pass in a quick attack. Now he looks good.

The OQT cordial against the Bahamas (the next team participating in the OQT in Spain) on June 27 showcased many aspects of Antetokounmpo’s game.
The 29-year-old scored 14 points in 15 minutes of action, while his teammates converted 12 of 26 three-pointers (46.2%). Greece and Antetokoumpo have a good chance of confirming their pre-Oqtam label as tournament favorites and qualifying for Paris if they repeat that performance during the week.
