During the first two games of the four-game series, the Milwaukee Brewers lost 8-7 and won 4-3 against the Colorado Rockies. During the third game of the series, the Brewers were able to punish the Rockies and walk away with 3-0 win without a goal. Milwaukee now extends its lead in the NL Central to seven games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals with a 52-35 record. Colorado is 29-57 and the worst team in the National League.
Milwaukee has three more series to play before the All-Star break. After that series concludes on July 4, the Brewers will travel to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers in a three-game series beginning Friday night. The Colorado Rockies will remain at home and welcome the Kansas City Royals for another three-game series.
Milwaukee Brewers punish Rockies in 3-0 victory
With three batters in the game, Milwaukee left fielder and a star again for the third time in his career, Christian Yelich hit a solo shot to right field against Rockies starter Dakota Hudson. Yelich has a .696 on-base percentage against Hudson, second only to Yankees Juan Soto, who has a .750 on-base percentage against Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman. An inning later, Brewers first baseman Jake Bauers hit an RBI line-drive single to right field.
Willy Adames ejected, Brewers hold off Rockies
Just three innings later, with the bases loaded, Brewers center fielder Garrett Mitchell scored an RBI single to make it 3-0. Two batters ahead of Mitchell, Brewers shortstop Willy Adames was thrown out on a third strike after barking at home plate umpire Mark Ripperger. In the bottom of the eighth inning, with runners on first and second base, Christian Yelich was able to make a great running catch into the left field wall for an out. Colorado had eight hits, but they failed to bring anything home and lost the game 3-0.
Top performers in Brewers 3-0 win
Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Colin Rea pitched seven innings, allowing just six hits and striking out four in the gigantic win. Christian Yelich was two of three with RBIs, while Brice Turang and William Contreras had three of five. Colorado Rockies starting center Dakota Hudson pitched four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks, striking out four batters. Hudson now has a 2-12 record on the season. Brendan Rodgers, Brenton Doyle and Jake Cave each had multiple hits in the loss.
