The Wisconsin football staff made a quick dent in the 2026 recruiting class when it offered a scholarship to one of its athletes last year.
Marcello VittiA four-star athlete from the Class of 2026 out of Michigan, he was considered a priority recruit for the Wisconsin football staff. Vitti has experience playing cornerback, safety and running back at the high school level, but plans to remain a running back at the college level. During a recent interview with Sports Heroics in WisconsinVitti admitted that he still considers Wisconsin a top school and is continuing to recruit.

One of the initial offers for the 2026 Wisconsin football team was made to a animated athlete named Marcello Vitti. Vitti, a four-star defensive end and quarterback from Michigan, is currently ranked 21st among athletes in his class by 247Sports.
Vitti currently has nearly 30 scholarship offers still coming in, with many large programs reaching out to recruits. Vitti says Sports Heroics in Wisconsin that the programs in close contact were in Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa, Boston College, Michigan, Louisville, TennesseeAND Northwest among many others.
The competitor is set to visit Madison for a third time later this year during the annual Bucky’s BBQ.
Marcello Vitti: “You can’t beat running behind that line and the school is great academically”
For the Wisconsin football staff, recruiting Vitti was largely about showing the recruit what it’s like to be a Badger running back. Perhaps the most intriguing part of running for Wisconsin football is the chance to run behind a historically dominant offensive line. Of the opportunity, Vitti said, “You can’t beat running behind that line,” and also said, “Wisconsin develops players, and that’s important to me.”
Vitti also noted that he respects the head coach Lukasz Fickell “a lot” and established a “great” relationship with the running coach Devon Spalding.
Despite his versatile skill set, the Wisconsin Badgers football staff considers Vitti an offensive threat
Vitti is one of the more captivating players in the 2026 class that Wisconsin has drawn attention to because of his versatile skill set. Most players have experience playing on both sides of the ball, but few can say they are as good on both sides of the ball as Vitti.
For example, former defensive backs and Michigan State interim head coach Harlon Barnett was Vitti’s primary recruiter for the Spartans before his departure. Barnett is now part of Northwest as safeties coach, and the Wildcats made Vitti a job offer.
For Wisconsin, Vitti is a animated running back in their eyes, and in Vitti’s own eyes. When asked what sets him apart on the field, Vitti said, “I would say I’m more versatile as a running back than some. I have good vision and can run the ball through defenders and catch the ball out of the backfield.”
A running back can either drive the ball directly to the defense or receive the ball when needed, and it’s difficult to find both styles in one player.
