Wisconsin Natural Resources Board gives DNR approval for 10% fewer bear hunting permits this fall

The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board (NRB) has lowered its bear hunting quota from the previous season for 2024, which will result in 10% fewer permits being issued.
The number of bears hunted in 2023 decreased significantly and amounted to 3,005 individuals, while the average number of individuals hunted during the year is about 4,000. Bears hunted in 2023 were shot under agricultural damage control permits, 25 during hunting education events and 29 bears hunted by hunters from off-reservation tribes.
