This Milwaukee Breweries are in position to be buyers at the 2024 trade deadline. They are rumored to be looking at “all pitching” and have already made a trade that sent former top-30 prospect Gregory Barrios for Aaron Civale. With more deals on the horizon, let’s take a look at three prospects GM Matt Arnold shouldn’t consider trading no matter what.
Milwaukee Brewers Unrivaled Prospect #1: RHP Jacob Misiorowski.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise. Jacob Misiorowski is the organization’s second-best prospect and one of the best prospects in baseball. The 22-year-old is currently peaking in the minor leagues, as his walk count has dropped significantly and he recently threw a career-high 6.1 innings, which also included 10 strikeouts. Given all the injuries Milwaukee has suffered this season, there’s a real possibility he could be a major league prospect at the trade deadline.
Milwaukee Brewers Unbreakable Prospect #2: SS Cooper Pratt
Cooper Pratt, 18, has made a huge jump up the prospect rankings this year, as he’s currently the Brewers’ fourth-ranked prospect, with MLB Pipeline recently ranking him in their top 100. A sixth-round pick in the 2023 draft who only dropped that low because other teams were concerned they wouldn’t be able to pry him away from his college commitment, he’s slashing .300/.398/.390 this year. Milwaukee loves versatile defenders (the current major league infield consists of three shortstops), and the 6’4″ Pratt fits their mold perfectly, as he’s played second base in addition to shortstop and is also considering third base.
Milwaukee Brewers Unbreakable Prospect No. 3: RHP Craig Yoho
The Brewers took a lottery pick for Craig Yoho in the eighth round last year, but they knew his potential was sky high. This year, we’re seeing what he’s capable of, as the 24-year-old former Indiana Hoosier is striking out 47.7 percent of the batters he faces over 34.2 innings. He has a 70 changeup rating, a 60 slider rating, and a 50 fastball rating. All the tools at his disposal, a dominant reliever in the majors, and Milwaukee should eliminate him from any trade conversation.
Milwaukee also has a number of other talented prospects. Catcher Jeferson Quero is their top prospect, and the Brewers don’t have any other catchers in their top 30 prospect rankings. With Quero out for the season after shoulder surgery, the likelihood of him being traded this summer is very low.
Other players who narrowly missed the untouchable list include international signings Luis Lara and Yophery Rodriguez. 2023 draft picks Brock Wilken and Mike Boeve also weren’t included, but the Brewers would have to invest a significant sum to trade either of those players.
This year, the MLB deadline for player trades is July 30. After the All-Star break, the number of trades and rumors should enhance even more.
