The Milwaukee Brewers opened a three-game series with the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers on Friday night. Milwaukee fell compact on Friday’s assignment, and while they clinched their seventh grand slam of the season, it still wasn’t enough to defeat Los Angeles in an 8-5 loss. The score was tied 3-3 last night heading into the eighth inning. The Brewers were stunned when the Dodgers scored two runs in the final minute, giving Milwaukee no chance to come back in the ninth inning during 5-3 loss.
Milwaukee is now 52-38 on the season. They lead the NL Central by five games over the second-place St. Louis Cardinals. Los Angeles is now 55-35. They lead the NL West by seven games over the second-place San Diego Padres. The Brewers will face the Dodgers one more time before they begin a three-game series with the Pittsburgh Pirates on Tuesday night.

Smith became the first Dodger since Adrian Gonzalez to hit a home run in four consecutive at-bats. Also in the bottom of the first inning, Dodgers right fielder Andy Pages hit an RBI force-out to extend Los Angeles’ lead to 3-1.
Breweries even the score
In the top of the fourth inning, Brewers first baseman Rhys Hoskins smashed a solo shot to put Milwaukee within one run. It was Hoskins’ 13th home run of the season. The next run of the game wasn’t scored until the top of the eighth inning, when Brewers left fielder Christian Yelich smashed a solo home run, his 10th of the season, to center field.
Dodgers come back in the eighth inning and win 5-3
Pinch hitter Miguel Vargas hit the game-winning home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth inning to give the Dodgers the lead. Just three batters later, Dodgers designated hitter Shohei Ohtani hit his 28th home run of the season, a solo home run to right-center field. Milwaukee’s offense found no answer in the top of the ninth inning, losing the game 5-3.
