Wisconsin Road Trip: 48 Hours to Explore Bayfield

From adventures on the Big Lake to charming communities and surprising landscapes, a visit to Bayfield is a unique experience. Gather your favorite people and get ready to explore this one-of-a-kind Wisconsin gem.

The first day

16:00 – Start your journey by familiarizing yourself with the area Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center on the edge Chequamegon-Nicolet National ForestThe center appeals to all nature lovers, offering interactive exhibits, wildlife viewing on scenic walkways and much more.

18:00 – Check into one of the many places to stay in Bayfield. Day two

Once you have set up camp, explore the island, stopping at Madeline Island Candles, Bell Street Gallery AND Woods Hall Craft Shop for locally made treasures. Grab a bite from a distinctive farm-to-table establishment Coffee cuttlefish or Miijim, offering Ojibwa-inspired cuisine.

Day third

9 am – Start your second day with a picturesque walk to Wonderstate Coffee for espresso and made-from-scratch pastries.

10 am – Continue your tour on foot using Meyers Beach hiking trail along and above the sea caves. For a more relaxing hike, try the trail in Houghton Falls Natural Area which winds through a picturesque sandstone gorge.

Are there any golfers in your group? Heights of the Apostles The 18-hole golf course is 500 feet above sea level and offers spectacular views of the islands. Honestly, you won’t care what your score is.

14:00 – Buy some last minute gifts at a lovely bookstore. Booksellers of the Apostle Islands offers a collection highlighting the history, culture and cuisine of the area. Be warned, you’ll probably leave with an armful of books!
