Lake Wisconsin sturgeon enthusiasts fear their catch of the unique fish could come to an abrupt end this summer if the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) gives in to demands from a protectionist group that is pushing to place the sturgeon on the federal Endangered Species List.
The Center for Biological Diversity first petitioned the USFWS in 2018 to list all of the nation’s lake sturgeon as “threatened” under the Endangered Species Act or to separately list distinct populations as threatened or endangered.
