This Milwaukee Breweries are one of several teams in the market for additional starting pitchers. Bob Nightengale listed them, along with the St. Louis Cardinals, Los Angeles Dodgers, Baltimore Orioles, San Diego Padres, Houston Astros and Atlanta Braves as teams looking to acquire at least one pitcher by the end of the season. Nightengale also noted that one popular trade target has publicly revealed that he will not waive his no-trade clause this season.
One of the Milwaukee Brewers’ trade targets is officially not available for trade this year.
A popular starting pitcher who has been mentioned in trade rumors again this season is starting pitcher Max Scherzer. He has opted out of his full no-trade clause three of the last four years, but according to Scherzer himself, he won’t be doing so this year. Scherzer revealed the information on Foul Territory and believes the currently sub-.500 Texas Rangers will start playing better baseball.
.@ajpierzyński12 he asked @Max_Scherzer would he be willing to waive his no-trade clause before the deadline…again.
“Yeah, I’m not going to do that… we’re going to play better baseball. It’s pointless to talk about it… we’re going to win here” #FTLive @BallySportsSW photo:twitter.com/3nucsTK1Hr

Max Scherzer will be a free agent after the 2024 season.
Max Scherzer previously signed a three-year, $130 contract. He is currently in the final year of a deal that only sees the Texas Rangers responsible for $12.5 million. Given his pedigree and the fact that he is a rental, if he changes his mind and is willing to be traded in 2024, he could be one of the most coveted pitchers out there.
How did Max Scherzer fare in 2024?
Max Scherzer only recently returned to the massive leagues after having lumbar spine surgery. However, the 39-year-old has put up solid numbers in his first four starts of the 2024 season, posting a 3.09 ERA in 23.1 innings. He’s a big-time postseason prospect and would be a great addition to any team competing for a championship, but it looks like he might be staying with the Texas Rangers this year.
