Packers QB Jordan Love: ‘I think Dontayvion Wicks is going to have a fantastic year’

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is among those who believe second-year starter Dontayvion Wicks will have a large year in 2024.

When asked who could be a breakthrough player for the Packers during AMA video on Bleacher ReportLove selected Wicks, a animated point guard who showed great skill as a rookie.

“I think Dontayvion Wicks is going to have a huge year this year,” Love said. “He did a lot of phenomenal things last year. I think the sky’s the limit for him. His confidence is growing, and the more reps he gets, the more comfortable he gets in the system and just plays fast.”

Drafted in the fifth round by the Packers last year, Wicks burst onto the scene as a rookie, catching 39 passes for 581 yards and four touchdowns. He added two more receptions and a touchdown in the postseason.

During the regular season, Wicks caught 67.2 percent of his targets and averaged 14.9 yards per catch and 10.0 yards per target. He also averaged over 2.0 yards per run.

A seasoned runner with explosive speed and the ability to run after the catch, Wicks consistently found himself open for Love in Matt LaFleur’s passing attack as a rookie. With a leap in his second year, Wicks could become a top target in one of the NFL’s best passing games in 2024.

Love also mentioned versatile quarterback Jayden Reed as another potential candidate to join the Packers in 2024.

“Both of those guys, rookies last year, did some incredible things. I think those are two guys who are going to come into their own this year and take the league by storm.”
