Concerts by the lake – Yazmin and Beat Zero

Yazmin and Beat Zero

Yazmin, who currently resides in New Orleans, Louisiana, was born and raised in Washburn, Wisconsin. Both of her parents were original members of Lake Superior Big Top Chautauqua, and she grew up surrounded by music, following in their footsteps from the moment she could walk. At age 12, after attending a concert with a Cuban jazz band, she immediately fell in love with Afro-Cuban jazz and dedicated herself to a lifelong immersion in Cuban culture. Her original music draws inspiration from these Caribbean influences, as well as artists such as Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and Queen, a melting pot of ingredients! This summer, she will be touring the Midwest with her trio Beat Zero. Their performance features Yazmin’s powerful keyboard playing and soaring vocals, as well as the talents of her world-class band: Grammy-nominated Álvaro Benavides from New York on bass and multi-instrumentalist Andrew Gillespie from Minneapolis, MN on drums. You’ll be captivated by their fascinating fusion of Latin-Funk and Folk/Rock, effortlessly blending English and Spanish, inviting listeners to cross worlds with every note. In addition to these original songs, Yazmin & Beat Zero also interpret well-known classics with their own twist. You may be called to dance or shed a tear before the night is over.

“…She was amazing. I sat on the porch, a little higher up the hill, and I was transported to another place. How brilliant is she? She’s absolutely fantastic. What a voice, what a keyboard player, just absolutely extraordinary!” -Nanci Griffith (songwriter)
