Milwaukee Brewers: Jackson Chourio looked like a star in two-game win over Minnesota Twins

This Milwaukee Breweries shocked the baseball world last winter when they signed Jackson Chourio to an eight-year contract with $82 million guaranteed. At the time of the signing, Chourio had yet to see a big-league field. The team had already played in 99 regular-season games and looked like a star in a two-game series against the Minnesota Twins.

In early June, his bat started to come on, and since then he’s had a slash line of .314/.368/.512 with five HR, 24 RBI, 23 K, and 11 BB.

After the All-Star break, the two playoff teams in Milwaukee and Minnesota met for a two-game series. In the first, a 12-inning game, Jackson Chourio went 3-5, including two RBI base knocks in extra innings and a game-ending diving catch.

A day later, Chourio went 2-4, hit a tying two-RBI double in the fifth inning, tied the score again in the seventh with a 443-foot home run, and made another slick defensive play in the outfield. He had five RBIs against the Twins.

Milwaukee Brewers manager Pat Murphy discusses Jackson Chourio’s star performance against the Minnesota Twins.

After the series ended, manager Pat Murphy was asked about Jackson Chourio’s performance over the weekend. Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel quoted him as saying, “After those two games, you’d say, ‘Wow, that kid deserves $150 million.’ It’s like we got him cheap if you watched those two games.”

The Brewers win over the Twins, putting them 15 games over .500 with a record of 57-42. They then play the Chicago Cubs, Miami Marlins and then the Atlanta Braves to end July.
