Wisconsin Music Festival Surprises Fans with Drone Show

It’s music festival season, and Wisconsin is home to several huge festivals that draw tens of thousands of fans for several days of music and fun, one of these festivals just surprised fans with a high-tech show to end the day.

Rock Fest in Cadott, Wisconsin, just celebrated its 30th festival over this last weekend, and there were several fun surprises during the birthday celebration, but it was the unexpected show after the headline act on Friday that had festival goers buzzing.

Just after Shinedown finished their high energy set, longtime festival promoter for Chippewa Valley Music Festivals, Wade Asher, hit the stage to thank fans for 30 great years and introduced a first for the festival, a drone show.

The 10-minute show was launched next to the festival grounds, giving the entire festival a view of the show that featured a variety of animations and sayings all to a soundtrack of bands that have played the festival over the years.

The show featured hundreds of drones with multicolored lights flying in formations to make designs like a drum set, a pair of hands putting up the horns, a guitar, several skeleton heads, and sayings like, “Thank You, Rock Fest Family”.

This was the first drone show that I’ve seen in person, and I was impressed, what a fun way to celebrate a huge milestone like this, they also had a fireworks show after Jelly Roll wrapped up his set on Saturday night.

Chippewa Valley Music Festivals has a huge 2025 ahead of them, as they move onto the next 30-years of Rock Fest, they’ve changed the name of their popular Country Fest to Hoofbeat, and they are launching a recent EDM music festival called Force Fields.
