Milwaukee Bucks GM sends forceful message to Eastern rivals during busy offseason

While the Milwaukee Bucks have had success retooling their roster ahead of the modern season, there is no denying that their moves pale in comparison to those of some of their biggest rivals in the Eastern Conference.

The New York Knicks made a splash by trading for Mikal Bridges, the Philadelphia 76ers changed the NBA landscape by acquiring Paul George, and then there’s the Boston Celtics, who just won the franchise’s 18th championship.

Despite the turmoil surrounding the conference offseason, Bucks general manager Jon Horst remains unfazed.

Horst does not deny that the competition will be even tougher in the upcoming season. At the same time, however, his confidence in his players and the team remains unwavering.

“Honestly, it’s about whether these other teams belong to the conversation with us,” he told Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “We’re the winningest team in the league and the conference over the last seven or eight years. We still have a place there. We still have the best player in the world. We have two top-75 guys leading the way.”

That’s a pretty bold statement from Horst after the Bucks were eliminated in the first round last season. But Horst said he’s extremely confident that as long as they’re fit, Milwaukee can take on any opponent.

“I mean, it’s an incredibly tough conference and a tough league,” he continued. “You only talk about the East, which is great, but the West has gotten a lot better. And whether they’re ours or we’re theirs, we’ll all figure that out together. It’ll work itself out. But there’s no doubt that our team is one of the best teams in the conference and the league.

Fans are expecting Giannis Antetokounmpo and company to return to form in 2024-25. Horst knows it will be a huge challenge for them, but there is no doubt that this team has what it takes to bring the Larry O’Brien Trophy to Milwaukee.
