Milwaukee Bucks boss brutally truthful about Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece’s Olympic chances

Milwaukee Bucks news: Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Greek national team were faced with a harsh reality on Saturday after losing 86-79 to Canada in the opening game of the Paris Olympics.

The Greeks knew that advancing from the group stage would be a huge challenge early on, and that was exactly what they faced as they competed against a star-studded Canadian team.

Bucks general manager Jon Horst flew all the way to France to show his support for Milwaukee’s key star. The team’s top executive doesn’t deny the fact that the odds are stacked against Greece in this tournament. Horst, however, is adamant that they have a fighting chance simply because Giannis is leading the team.

“It’s historic what he’s going to do leading Greece to the Olympics on Friday night in Paris,” Horst said of Antetokounmpo, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “I think it’s incredibly exciting. And I don’t know, you feel pride, you appreciate how he’s doing it and just be a part of his story and his journey. Everything he’s done to get to this point is incredible. To see where he is, what he can do in the context of world sports history, so that part is incredibly cool.”

“… They have a really tough pool, but they’re a really good team. They’ve had a hell of a qualifying tournament so far and they’ve got the best player in the world on their team, so They have a chance. So I’m definitely rooting for them.”

The teams only play three games in the group stage of the competition, so Tuesday’s match against Spain is practically a must-win for Giannis and the Greeks. It won’t be the end of the world if they lose, but a defeat to Spain will make it much harder for Greece to advance to the knockout stages.
