Fall camp has begun for Wisconsin football. The Badgers will put on their pads for the first time tomorrow as they begin preparing for the 2024 season. We already know how tough the schedule is and how many modern and familiar faces this team has. With the addition of four modern teams to the Big Ten, the divisions have disappeared, and only two teams from the 18-team conference will advance to the conference championship in Indianapolis. Here are my four predictions for the 2024 Wisconsin football season.
Hunter Wohler to be named to Big Ten First Team
Hunter Wohler is the best player on this Wisconsin football roster. He’s also the leader on this team. Wohler made the Big Ten first team last year from the coaches, but was voted second team by the media. How that happened, I’m not sure.
All Wohler does is find the ball. He led the Badgers with 120 total tackles. I think he’ll do similar things this season. As one of the best defensive players in the Big Ten returning this year, expect Wohler to have a dominant senior year and leave as one of the better defensive players in the Wisconsin football program in a long time.
Wisconsin Football to Win at Least 1 Game in Alabama, USC, Penn State, Oregon Gauntlet
You won’t find many schedules in the country with four games more hard than this one for the Badgers. The Alabama game is the first of an agreed-upon two-game series that will see the Badgers travel to Tuscaloosa next season.
The good news? USC is the only road game in this group. This should be the biggest crowd at Camp Randall all season. The Badgers haven’t been the dominant home team they’ve been in the past, but I think Madison is still a tough place to play. I don’t think Wisconsin football has lost three home games this year.
Will Pauling to be selected All-Conference
Pauling was a star for the Badgers last year after transferring from Cincinnati, leading the team with 73 catches for over 800 yards. After not making the conference’s all-conference team in 2023, I’d be shocked if Pauling didn’t perform well enough to make one of the teams.
Now that he has a full season in Madison, I think Pauling could be a 1,000-yard receiver. He was really good at getting open in the slot and made some huge plays behind schedule in games. He should be the top target in Wisconsin football on opposing scouting reports.
Wisconsin football to win 8 games in 2024
I won’t be predicting every game on the schedule in this article, as I will be doing that every Friday during the season. This seems like a team that you can bet on for over 6.6 wins. While there are some really tough games on the 2024 schedule, I think there are a lot of games that the Badgers should be concerned about. This team already looks like it has more depth and talent than it did a year ago.
Games like Iowa, Nebraska, and Rutgers will probably be toss-ups, but I don’t think Wisconsin will lose all three of those games. I could be more hopeful, but I think this team is better than it was in 2023. The most crucial thing is the results on the field, but I have a better feeling about this team than others.
