Wisconsin Football Camp Update: Wide Receiver Continues to Dominate 50-50 Games

One player on the Wisconsin football team who has attracted a lot of attention from the start is a active and perilous player.

Bryson Greenformer transfer wide receiver from Oklahoma State Universitystruggled to make much of an impression in his first season at Wisconsin. But the receiver could really break through in Year 2 as he continues to carve out a specific role for himself in the offense. The 6-foot-3 receiver will likely become the go-to guy for the long throws Wisconsin wants to make.

One of the first storylines for the Wisconsin football program to emerge from camp was the dominance of the wide receivers. Bryson Green in long-range situations. Green transferred to Wisconsin last season and recorded 480 yards receiving and two touchdowns while averaging 15 yards per reception. The receiver is known for taking his top off and making large plays down the field in single coverage.

Last season, the offense and quarterback position struggled for Wisconsin, which resulted in Green and his teammates never being able to fully utilize the ball. This season, however, the Wisconsin football staff has a recent plan for Green as they create long-range opportunities for the receiver to excel in. Green looked great in 50-50 situations down the field against single coverage.

In their second year with the Wisconsin Football Program, will the Green be able to break through to the Badgers?

The Wisconsin Badgers won 38-17.

For a receiver in his final year of eligibility, breaking through is something he has been striving for since he first stepped foot on a college field. However, the receiver has faced some adversity and has had to wait until this upcoming season to truly show what he is capable of.

One of the issues that plagued Wisconsin’s receiving corps a season ago was drops, which also hurt Green. While the quarterback’s play struggled last season and should certainly improve this year, drops also caused many drives and plays to end prematurely. With these expected changes, Green could finally reach the potential he feels he hasn’t shown yet in the upcoming season.

Both Pauling and Green could become key offensive players in the upcoming campaign.

Wisconsin’s offense features a duo of wingers who have different skill sets and could complement each other on the field this upcoming season. Will Pauling be proved last season to be a active receiver who can find a variety of ways to get open, whether it’s through route running or juke moves. Bryson Green, meanwhile, is a powerful receiver who excels playing above the defensive line.

The two different styles of play between the receivers could complement each other on the field as Wisconsin looks to place players in positions that will allow them to succeed. The Wisconsin football staff continued to experiment with each position, giving players opportunities in camp to do what they do best on the field. The staff may find that in the upcoming season, they will put both receivers on the field at the same time more often so that the receivers can benefit.

Pauling and Green combined for 1,317 yards on 106 receptions and eight touchdowns last season. While Pauling carried the load between them, recent roles at wide receiver could allow Green to emulate the same production Pauling has.

Offensive Coordinator Phil Longo I’ve seen similar results at UNC with current NFL wide receivers Josh Downs AND Antoine the Green in the past. The duo has combined for 1,828 yards and 18 touchdowns in the 2022 season.
