When 39-year-old Wisconsin hunter Ben Karasch climbed a tree on Saturday, Nov. 11, he was hoping to see one of Buffalo County’s legendary deer, not an adult cougar hunting him down.
Karasch was hunting on private land in the Montana town of Gilmanton, in northern Buffalo County.
“I climbed up the ladder that afternoon and didn’t see a single deer in the early evening. That’s unusual for this area,” Karasch said.
