The Wisconsin football team has added its 23rd regular from the 2025 recruiting class after securing one from Xavier Ukponu. Ukponu, a Texas native and three-star defensive lineman, received 36 scholarship offers and took eight official visits to programs before announcing his commitment. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive lineman has a high-motor style that balances speed and power.
What can Ukponu offer Wisconsin on and off the football field?
For the Wisconsin football staff, Ukponu is someone who will provide tremendous strength and high motor along the defensive line. Ukponu is versatile, and while he primarily played as an end last season, he also has the ability to play as an inside linebacker. The linebacker recorded 31 tackles, six tackles for loss and one sack last season.
Ukponu is also a talented track and field athlete who has set huge records in the shot put. The lineman is agile, powerful and has the ability to cut inside or outside, depending on what the offense gives him. His strength as a shot putter can be seen on the football field, thanks to the force he generates by pushing the offensive line back.

For several months, recruiting analysts have been suggesting a possible change in commitments for the decorated Texan. Zay Gentry. Gentry predicted he would flip his commitment to the Wisconsin Badgers, which becomes even more possible with Ukponu’s commitment.
