Milwaukee Bucks’ stance on Brook Lopez trade rumors revealed

Even though Brook Lopez is a key member of the Milwaukee Bucks roster, his name has been mentioned in numerous transfer rumors this offseason.

In truth, it’s not a complete shock considering how disappointing last season was for the Bucks after another first-round exit in the playoffs. At this point, there seems to be a slight sense of desperation within the team — or at least among the fan base — as Milwaukee looks to rebound in 2024-25.

However, according to general manager Jon Horst, parting ways with Lopez is out of the question.

In a recent interview with The Athletic’s Erik Nehm, one of the more challenging questions Horst had to face was Lopez’s future with the team. A high-ranking Bucks executive confirmed the rumors surrounding the former All-Star’s potential departure, and Horst made it clear that wasn’t going to happen.

“I don’t usually talk about all this with the media, but I will say that because Brook is such an important part of our identity, we have no intentions “about the Brook trade,” Horst said.

“Of course he’s valuable in the league. That’s his merit. But we haven’t had any real conversations about trading Brook. There are teams that have a lot of value in him and are interested in him. My job is to answer the phone, take the phone calls, have the conversations, but Brook has been and will be the backbone of who we are.”

Based on the statement above, it seems Horst is confirming that he has received inquiries about Lopez from around the league. However, it is clear that he has turned down every single one of them.

“I hope Brook retires as a Milwaukee Bucks,” Horst continued. “That’s been the goal since we originally acquired him. His impact on our team defensively and rebounding is elite. It’s only getting better. It’s not declining. I mean, he’s an anomaly in the way he just keeps getting better and better and better.”

This should officially put an end to all the rumours about Lopez and a potential summer departure. As Horst has stated, the man isn’t going anywhere.
