Sections Packers rookie OL Jordan Morgan returns to practice Tuesday

Though he won’t be at full strength, Green Bay Packers rookie offensive lineman Jordan Morgan will return to practice Tuesday after missing a week with a shoulder injury.

Morgan, a first-round draft pick of the Packers, was injured during practice last Tuesday. He missed the team’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns, but he could be on track to make his NFL debut Sunday in Denver.

Coach Matt LaFleur said Morgan will have “limited” opportunities at Tuesday’s practice — suggesting he will only practice isolated periods.

While a left tackle in college, Morgan took most of his reps as an inside guard. At the time of his injury, he was the preferred starting option at right guard.

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich hasn’t ruled out the possibility of Morgan eventually playing more at quarterback, but the team is focused on getting him ready to play right guard right away.

When asked if the Packers would give Morgan more work at quarterback upon his return, LaFleur did not express a sturdy opinion but was open to the idea.

“Potentially, I think everything is up for discussion,” LaFleur said. “We’ll see.”

There is a possibility that the Packers will eventually need Morgan — a three-year starter in Arizona — as a backup offensive quarterback if starters Rasheed Walker and Zach Tom are injured.

Elsewhere on the rookie injury front, quarterback MarShawn Lloyd, who injured his hamstring in the preseason opener, will not practice Tuesday and his return timeline has not yet been announced.

As for the practice schedule, the Packers will not be in full pads for Tuesday’s open session. They will be back in full pads for Wednesday’s open practice, then go through Thursday before flying to Denver and having a joint practice with the Broncos on Friday.
