A bright but windy August morning greeted visitors at Blackhawk Park in Vernon County along the Mississippi River, where uniformed law enforcement officers and a group of children enjoyed fishing and fun.
“This is the first Vernon County Cops & Bobbers,” said organizer Shawna McDowell. “But it won’t be the last.”
McDowell, a DNR game warden and part-time sheriff’s deputy, was one of dozens of officers, biologists, lifeguards and others who volunteered to teach children in the county about fishing, fish biology and management.
