The Wisconsin football staff scouted the 2026 recruiting class earlier this year and extended scholarship offers to some preferred targets. Among the recruits offered last March was three-star defensive lineman Plant Jonathan Umu-CaisColorado native who has some earnest power on the field. Umu-Cais is a versatile lineman who is a big-time 6-foot-3 and 300 pounds.
Umu-Cais currently has double-digit scholarship offers, including one from his home state Colorado Buffaloes. When asked about receiving an offer from a state school, Umu-Cais replied, “Yes, it’s obviously special because it’s my first offer, but getting it as a freshman was special.”
Umu-Cais: ‘I’m Still Learning What Wisconsin Brings to the Game’
For Umu-Cais, finding the right school is a process, and he plans to take his time before making a college decision. When asked about potential interest in different schools, Umu-Cais stated, “I mean, it’s still early for me and I’m still doing the research I need to get all the schools interested.” The defensive lineman added, “But I can tell you that every program has something unique to offer.”
When asked about Wisconsin’s interest after receiving the scholarship offer, Umu-Cais stated, “I’m still learning what Wisconsin has to offer.”
The gigantic defensive lineman is focused on learning the ins and outs of the program before committing to it and dedicating his future to it. When asked about the various factors in recruiting, Umu-Cais stated, “Well, first of all, playing time. I want to know how early I can get on the field, since I understand all the principles of coaching.”
Umu-Cais also added, “Another thing is how well I can build a relationship with my coach because I will be with him more than anyone else.” The defender also added that strength and conditioning is also something he is looking for, as the health and training of the players should be taken seriously.
The Wisconsin Badgers football staff loves the intensity and size of Umu-Cais
For the Wisconsin football staff, Umu-Cais offers a different set of skills on the field that the team currently lacks. If there is one thing Wisconsin may struggle with down the stretch, it is a combination of technique and size. Wisconsin has several gigantic, forceful rushers, such as Brandon Lane AND James Thompson Jr but none of them are very technical.
At 6’1” and weighing in at over 250 pounds, Umu-Cais would certainly be an improved fighter than Wisconsin while also displaying excellent technical skills.
