Fishing for muskies from the “wrong” side of the boat

The muskie’s “shadow” on the side view of the electronics was unmistakable—and it appeared in the opposite direction from where we were casting. At my suggestion that he throw a lure at the fish and see what happened, my friend Charlie Buhler threw a gentle plastic.
As he worked the lure, a muskie appeared behind it. Buhler swung the multi-tailed lure in a substantial figure eight, and the water exploded as the muskie took hold. What Buhler did to catch that muskie is what some anglers call casting “the wrong way.” Let me explain.
